In the case of Acne
Acne is a skin condition caused by inflammations of the hair follicles and pores of the skin. It results in lesions that are commonly known as pimples or spots. These are bulging spots under the skin known as whiteheads. Dark spots with open pores at the centre, known as blackheads, may also be seen. In more severe cases red swellings or lumps filled with pus may occur, known as pustules.
Acne is most common during puberty, where changes in hormone levels occur as a child develops into adulthood, resulting in an over productive response of oily secretion from the sebaceous glands.
The condition may disappear over time as hormones balance out and adulthood begins. However, for some people it will continue, or even begin in adulthood (known as Acne Rosacea).
The excess oils combine with dead skin cells and block hair follicles and pores. This allows bacteria to multiply and the skin inflames in response. Lesions are most commonly noticed on the face, chest, back and shoulders, where oil production is profuse.
Causes
Acne occurs when your body contains more toxins than your kidneys, liver and bowels can remove. This can occur from a variety of factors: hormonal activity (menstrual cycles and puberty); stress; hormonal imbalances; bacterial infection; allergic responses; overuse of prescription medications (especially those containing steroids); and exposure to high levels of chlorine.
Food sensitivities and toxicities are amongst the main causes (excess milk consumption, for example, as well as seafood (with relatively high levels of iodine) and caffeine). If you are an acne sufferer you should therefore be aware of what you are sensitive to and refrain from consuming such items whilst you build your system and immunity back up….gradually reintroducing foods as time goes on.
When toxins accumulate and cannot be expelled rapidly enough, your immune system and organs of elimination may weaken. When this happens your body has to expel toxins through your lungs and skin instead, and this is when acne occurs and your skin starts to ‘breakout’.
